Bio-Android (Cell) Race

The idea is to see if we can create a race like Cell, a Bio-Android. These androids are living/biological beings. They have a ki signature, and can also sense ki. Let’s see if we can brainstorm some ideas!

Part of me somewhere likes to think this is already in the game, but as a NPC boss type of character.

As an AA… our flashy racial stuff starts to turn into a ‘meh’ later in the rounds. I’d like to see something of Cell manifest itself into the form of a special situation/permanent-transformation sort of thing.

Unlocked similar to other ‘mysterious’ methods of endgame content.

Player trades away AA related stuffs, for a different set of racial specials more attuned for late game.

I agree Cell may be a Master, or a ref has put bio-android as NPC’s on their planet.

Kind of weird to go from a pure machine, Absorb Androids are like Android 19, to a living creature like Cell created from dna splicing.

Agreed… its just… Cell isn’t very different from AA’s, other than the fact they can probably train/spar.

… and if an AA were to give up their Absorb Abilities, for this… seems like a mechanic match.

Maybe a bio-android’s dna could allow them to start and level up 3 different custom sigs, whereas every other race so far can only ever have 1. I don’t think it would work to have them start with a bunch of Master moves like Cell had.

Dr. Gero would be the Master I think. His consciousness uploaded into consoles around the different planets giving clues to how you will achieve your next ‘Evolution’ through organic sciences.

Where we go after that in terms of moves and abilities can be decided in discussion, but the Bio-Android can be weaker early and much stronger later. They just have a ‘Major Questline’ from the Refs to seek out in order to “Level Up”.

The different Levels (1, 2, & 3) could be its own Signature move in itself. Your body gains Signature modifications through your Evolution. Maybe at Level 2 you pick up Limb Regeneration and Skill Absorbtion. Then at Level 3 you pick up Perfect Ki Detection ( Scouter-Like Ki Detecting ) and Create Bio-Clone ( A Saibamen-like Cell Jr Clone that can use some of your abilties, but it costs you 25% Base PL to create ).

Oooo, I do like this idea of them starting very weak, but can have an amazing end game when “perfect.” Perhaps they even have to spend the first 2 weeks in the larva form, that giant bug thing that shed its skin when the imperfect Cell finally emerged from. I’m sure we can have Mado whip us up something to do for the 2 weeks instead of self-training on our page, after enough “clicks” you shed the skin and start a more normal character, although still fairly weak to start but some new skills to get you moving and can now train of course.

Imperfect Cell Form could last a while without having to undergo metamorphosis. Most of the function of the 3 forms, at least in my mind, is to create breakpoints of power difference to have the player make choices.

Stage 1 could be more of a hide/ambush/sneak playstyle, with Stage 2 being more of the ‘Balanced’ form where you’re able to compete better, and Stage 3 being a more bold form that has the capability to take on some pretty heavy foes.

I’m loving where this is going already, keep up the ideas! I’ll be honest, when I posted this one I wasn’t sure if we would get anything good. This has been great!

I could probably personally come up with a decent structure for a Bio-Android by the end of the day. I’ve got some stuff I need/want to do, but I should have time.

Bio-Android (Cell) Race
Bio-Androids are more primitive in their early design and abilities. In Stage 1 of their development cycle, they start off weaker than most other races. In appearance, Bio-Androids mimic that of a post larval insect-like form. As they mature, they can take on one of many different appearances. Their main form of growing stronger is a powerful ability to absorb 60% of an opponent’s Powerlevel, after defeating their opponent in battle and draining them with a stinger like tail.

They cannot benefit from self-training, sparring, higher gravity, or weighted clothing until they reach their final form.

Ability Explanations
Bio-Androids begin with the following abilities:

Hikou: Enables flight and boosts all physical attacks by +3% damage.

Power Keisoku: Allows androids to read Powerlevels, like a scouter (but with no reading cap).

Genetic Makeup: Bio-Androids are genetically made up of the cells of other fighters across the universe. These base cells come from: Nappa, Krillin, Gohan, Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Frieza. Players will get to choose from 2 Unique Abilities from these genetic samples.

Evolutions: Through the course of the Round, your Ref will give clues that Dr. Gero’s has left for you. These will lead you to being able to progress from Stage 1 of your form to Stage 2, and eventually Stage 3. These will make you stronger, but you will have to play to find out more of what they do specifically.

Powerlevel Absorption: As Bio-Androids evolve, their ability to absorb Powerlevels from defeated opponents diminishes:

In Stage 1, absorption efficiency is 50%.
At Stage 2, absorption efficiency is further reduced to 30%.
At Stage 3, absorption efficiency is drastically reduced to 10%.

Starting Stats:
Powerlevel: 550 (Probably higher towards 1000 PL, 550 PL feels low the more I think on it)
Maximum learnable abilities*: 10?

Special:
Hikou (+3% damage to all physical attacks)
Power Keisoku
Genetic Makeup
Evolutions
Absorb

(( Number Values Subject to Change for Balancing ))

Seems pretty legit to me. I like the idea that you can choose some moves from various DBZ fighters. Granted I’m sure a select few would ger picked (sorry Nappa and Krillin).

Something I’m really liking is the idea of going through stages as game progresses, almost like permanent transformations which we haven’t done yet in PM. Their abilities and playstyle being the big changes each time as well seems more unique than a typical pl multiplier.

Larva - survive, don’t get squashed like a bug! Maybe mado gives us something to click on to evolve into next stage after enough clicks.

Stage 1 - absorb, but can’t train. New abilities added.

Stage 2 - more abilities. maybe we can do something special here, perhaps have reached your limit on absorbing at this point and lose the benefit of it (besides your quest target or whatever). I like the idea of saving training for the final stage, what could be done here? I feel like there needs to be some way to still gain powerlevel, unless this stage is meant to slow you down until can complete your quest for final stage? Perhaps just normal 10% from fighting?

Stage 3 - more abilities, and now you can train.

I don’t want to rain on the parade :grimacing: But… one of the big things with adding a new race is I’d like them to be an actual race from the show. As far as I know Cell is a one-off creation and not an actual race of beings. I’m open to discussion on it if you guys have good points/arguments, but to me a one-off race doesn’t have a place as a playable character in a game.

I was talking to Ryujin about it, and he said we had a very similar discussion back in '09 about adding a Cell race, and we had decided not to do it back then, more or less for the same reasons I mentioned.

In the original DBZ show, just Cell.

There are a few dbz games that have been released since then that expand on the Bio-Android race though.

There is another Bio-Android created, Cell Max, in the newest movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes.

We have been playing with a Majin Buu race as well. Same thing, as far as original DBZ show, just Buu.

Since then, they have expanded the race into various games.

The Dragon Ball Daima show gives us the origin/creator of Majin Buu, and she makes some new creations Majin Kuu abd Majin Duu.

Yeah if I remember right, we never added a Cell or Majin Buu type race because of the same reasons I mentioned above.

What do you guys think? Does it make sense to add playable versions of Cell and Majin Buu to PM? Should we start a new thread and/or discord discussion just on that topic?
