I was talking with Mado the other day and he wasn’t really feeling like Duugos had too much going for them other than faster Transformations when he was evaluating the Races.
So, as I do, got to thinking about what might be unique to them that would add to their flavor but also make you work to achieve it.
I came up with the idea to have their innate Tail Whip attack increase in Damage for each Transformation they unlocked. A 1% Damage Increase Per Transformation unlocked seemed like it was a fair, simple, and unique way to take their inherent trait and build upon it. I’m personally not sure how many Transformations there are, but I would personally cap the Damage Increase at 5%. So when you unlocked your last Transformation, your Tail Whip would do 15% Damage.
Hmmm… I don’t know enough to speak about the current balance of the races, especially in PM’s current form. Fewer updates hurts fighting races and helps training races. There’s also map/ref design, which is always different, so no clue how that is effecting things this round. I will say, every race is not meant to be equal at every stage of the game, and a big piece to some is capitalizing on big gains early (hard to do with less updates), so you can compete with othet races as their advantages take over. In the past I have thought of Duugos as a unique race that just keeps going back and forth from being great to terrible, great to terrible, so on. Frustrating.
As far as Tail Whip goes, it is basically like always having a sword (10%), that stays with you after death. Although, I suppose it could get cut off. Pretty sure it does work with the unarmed fighting style (not sword style of course) as well which really makes it deadly when you add to its damage. Flight adds to it just like all physical attacks too. It is probably the best physical move in the game. At a certain point, ki attacks become very risky with all the possible ways to increase your defenses, because you have to pay the high cost regardless. No details about the whole combo system, but that sounds more like a physical bonus to me. Then there are physical critical hits. Androids can’t absorb physical attacks. I’m not saying ki attacks don’t serve a purpose at different points in the game, but so much these days favor physical, and tail whip is already king.
That said, this did get me thinking about tail whip, and it is not commonly used in the show, but when it does come out it’s always a big surprise like “oh shit I forgot you had one of those things!”(harder to dodge or block maybe?) or it would leave the opponent in shock (stun like elbow maybe?). Although, if frieza were to just keep spamming his tail, I’m guessing it would have been easier to evade or block, the surprise is where it shines.
