Please see the disclaimer about Planet and Ref, as it will have a major effect on this topic. I will link it at the very bottom of this post.
Will your character be a good guy or evil, and what’s the difference? Are you trying to be the hero that saves the planet, it’s NPC’s/Masters and the players? Do you align with a group of bad guys looking to take over the planet, and harm the NPC’s/Master and good players? Are you just plain evil and looking to take on anyone and everyone as long as it benefits you?
In the beginning of Planet Mado, nearly every Player was what we would later consider “evil.” It was the only logical choice. Sure, you may fight that evil bad guy NPC, but you were also robbing shops and killing any player or Master you wanted to. All that mattered was that it helped you out. As the game progressed, planets were often designed with this good guy’s vs bad guys approach, and your actions could have consequences on how others interact with you. The good guys were typically local to the planet you were on with most of the Masters (sometimes they were what you might consider “evil” in the grand scheme of things though), and the bad guys were a group looking to invade the planet and take them down. Players often could align with either side, and the fun began. Sometimes you will still get that evil player, not necessarily a double agent, he’s more in it for himself.
Being a good guy in Planet Mado can sometimes feel like you’re playing the game on hardcore mode. It can be a true test. You know you would be stronger, have more items and credits, and be so much better off if your character just didn’t have that conscience! It’s not all terrible though, the good news is that you probably benefit from the local Masters on the planet, either from the moves they teach, training, or their protection. Perhaps the biggest benefit can be in death, where you are rewarded for the sacrifices you made when alive.
Joining the bad guys can be nice too, surely they have someone that can teach you moves, train, and offer their protection… right? An advanced scouter will definitely help, let the goodies bring you their moves! You’ll have a whole lot more opportunities to take advantage of killing people, robbing, stealing, plundering! Fighting, and all the rewards that come with it, can be your advantage here. While it can seem all nice and easy while alive, beware of death.
Then there’s pure evil. This can be the biggest risk, but potentially the biggest reward. You do whatever you want. You will have the most opportunities to fight and claim the prize. The downside, everyone is your enemy while you are alive. Death will not be forgiving either.
